Fashion Retail (MENA): Shopify and Proprietary SaaS Integration
Initial Situation
A MENA fashion retail company had separate systems for e-commerce (Shopify), inventory management, and a proprietary SaaS platform. Product data, inventory levels, and customer orders required manual synchronization, leading to overselling, stock discrepancies, and delayed order fulfillment. The team spent 15 hours per week manually updating data across systems.
Approach
We designed and implemented automated data flows between all three systems:
- Data validation: Product data from Shopify is validated against inventory system rules before processing
- Data enrichment: Product information is enriched with inventory levels, supplier data, and pricing information
- Data transformation: Data is transformed to match each target system’s format (Shopify → proprietary SaaS API, Inventory → Shopify)
- Bidirectional order flows: Order data flows bidirectionally with real-time inventory updates
- Error handling: Automated error detection and notification system for data inconsistencies
The solution uses Enterprise Integration Patterns with Apache Camel, deployed on AWS with Infrastructure-as-Code.
Result
- Order processing time reduced by 60% through automated workflows
- Stock discrepancies eliminated with real-time synchronization
- Customer satisfaction improved with accurate delivery estimates
- 15 hours per week saved by eliminating manual data entry
- Operational risk reduced through automated validation and error handling
Key Learnings
- Real-time bidirectional data flows require careful conflict resolution strategies
- Data validation at the source prevents downstream errors and reduces operational overhead
- Enriching data with context (inventory levels, supplier info) improves decision-making across systems
- Automated error handling and monitoring are critical for maintaining data quality in multi-system integrations
